From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Student pilot on solo flight. Final approach to runway 17 with a 10-12 knot tailwind. Student-initiated a go-around attempt. Flying down the runway at approximately hanger height (20 feet), engine power was applied and flaps retracted from 40 degrees to 15 degrees. Crossing departure end of the runway, the aircraft descended into a ravine and subsequent tree line. Striking a treetop, the aircraft and tree came to rest in the ravine approximately 140 feet below airport elevation.
