From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 2/15/20 I received an email from a CFR 141 flight school of an incident involving one of their aircraft that involved a prop strike. The pilot departed from the hayward airport and upon performing touch and go at the Byron airport returned to hayward where the pilot discovered the prop strike.

2/19/20 Inspected aircraft at the hwd airport. Propeller has damage on one blade (slightly ground down) the second blade missing about 1-2 inches. Lower engine firewall shows signs of buckling. Forward fuselage belly skin buckled. Cabin forward floors buckled. Upper t-bar on pilots side contacting instrument panel structure (yoke very difficult to move forward and aft. Inspected log books. Current required inspections up to date.

Met with pilot 2/19/20 with an ops inspector. Pilot described no problems with aircraft upon departure from hwd. Described touch and go into Byron. In the landing flare the pilot recalls the airplane ballooning, nosing down to correct and flaring again. The airplane sank real hard and touched down flatly. Pilot completed touch and go and a radio communication from someone on the ground indicating to the pilot that he may have had a prop strike. Pilot stated he performed a flight check of aircraft in flight with no concerns and decided to return to hwd. Upon landing in hwd pilot tied down aircraft and discovered prop damage.
