From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The airman departed rawlings (kwrl) en-route to gooding (kgng). While 24 NM from kgng, the engine failed due to fuel starvation. The right tank was selected and the airman intentionally ran the tank dry, since that fuel gage was previously known as inoperative. The pilot then switched to the right tank with remaining fuel of approximately of 4 gallons, but was unable to restore power. During the emergency landing to a dormant alfalfa field, the pilot failed to maintain adequate flying speed and stalled the aircraft resulting in complete loss of control. The aircraft was substantially damaged.

As the FAA filed it
