What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot's planned route of flight was from man, twf, 06U and back to man airport. The pilot stated his intentions was to log flight time.
The pilot had stopped in Twin Falls to talk with someone at an avionics shop. He said he then started back up, taxied to runway 26. The pilot said he planned to do a no flap takeoff because of the strong winds.
The airman said he had just began his takeoff roll from runway 26 when a gust from the south hit him. The airman said his airspeed indicator spiked to 70 mph, lifted him approximately 10 feet off of the ground, and he weather veined into the wind towards the south. He said it felt like he was going to stall. The airman said he jammed in the right the rudder. He decided to pull the throttle back and put the aircraft back on the ground. He was not sure if he touched any pavement or not. He said he did think he landed mostly in the gravel. He said he steered the aircraft between 2 PAPI lights. He requested permission to taxi back to the FBO. He was unaware of the extent of damage. He parked the aircraft and reported the accident.
The aircraft damaged the right wing spar and damaged the pitot static tube on the left wing by impacting the PAPI lights for runway 26.
At the time of the accident the pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft and there were no injuries.
