From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot started his takeoff roll in the grassy area between the runway and the parallel taxiway. When the pilot lifted the tail, he noted the aircraft started to veer toward the PAPI lights. The pilot attempted to correct the direction of the aircraft, but decided to continue the takeoff in an attempt to avoid hitting the PAPI lights. Just after liftoff, the pilot heard the noise of an impact. The pilot assessed the situation and decided the aircraft was handling normally. The aircraft had normal engine performance so the pilot decided to continue into the pattern. While continuing in the pattern to return to the airport, the pilot noted damage to the left main gear. The pilot made a call to traffic in the area that he would be returning to land in the grass due to damage on the aircraft. The pilot landed in the grass on the right main gear and held the left gear off as long as possible. As the pilot put the left gear down the aircraft slowly skidded to a stop, veering to the left as the left gear collapsed.

As the FAA filed it
