From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot of N7658M set the parking brake and hand propped the engine of the aircraft with the passenger seated inside to operate the starter button. When the engine started, before the pilot could get into the cockpit, the aircraft began to roll forward. Instructions to the passenger to retard the throttle were not understood / followed.

The aircraft struck two parked aircraft before coming to rest against a sign pole when the pilot was able to get into the aircraft and secure the engine. After the incident, the parking brake system was inspected by an aircraft mechanic and was found to have weak and worn parts.
