From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N318CG left home base mankato, MN (kmkt) for Hayward, WI (khyr) flying 50 minutes. The PIC lined up for a full stop to rwy 03. Winds were 120/10G18 so a direct right crosswind. The aircraft was crabbed into the wind. Crossing the threshold the pilot stepped on left rudder pedal to orient the nose alignment with the runway, and inputted right wing down aileron for the crosswind. Just prior to touch down the pilot heard a pop and lost and the left pedal went all the way forward. The airplane touched down and began a drift toward the right side of the runway. The PIC stated the left pedal was gone and he could not adjust back to the left. As the aircraft departed the runway it struck a runway light. Leaving the prepared terrain the PIC performed an emergency shutdown. The aircraft continued in the grass for 600 ft on a heading of 320. It ultimately stopped when the right main mount sank in the mud collapsing and the nose gear collapsed. Minor damage to the aircraft; prop, small fuselage rwy light impact and landing gear. FAA post incident maintenance inspection did reveal broken rudder cable.
