From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

From PIC -

During a short flight on Friday may 1, the engine began to run a little rough on my plane (N40309, Maule M4-220C).

On final I decided to land in the grass area west of the 3/21 runway thinking if the motor stalled when pulling power that I would be clear of the incoming traffic.

There was another plane in the pattern at the time.

During my landing roll out I hit a drainage ditch that I did not see. The landing gear collapsed.
