From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot took off from a privately owned airstrip on 5-22-2020 at approx 5:30 pm (CDT), operating a corvair powered Sonex aircraft. The climb out was normal with no indications of any problems. Pilot flew for about approx 20 minutes when the engine started to misfire. Pilot turned to the closest airport which was in Temple Texas, about 6 miles away.

The misfiring continued to get worse. Pilot proceeded 3 to 4 miles and realized the plane did not have enough power and was not going to make the Temple airport. Pilot identified a newly paved road with very little traffic. With the engine barely running, pilot started to descend the aircraft to the road. During the decent the aircraft caught an overhead line and damaged the propeller. Pilot continued to descend and landed on the road without any further damage to any person, property, or power lines. Aircraft was trailered back to pilots hangar.

As the FAA filed it
