From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft was on a application run and had just completed the first pass when the PIC heard a very loud squealing noise and then the aircraft had a significant loss of thrust. PIC stated that all the gauges indicated normal operation. The PIC managed to put the aircraft down in an adjacent field. The aircraft sustained damage to the undercarriage and propeller.

Subsequent findings: failure of propeller reduction gearbox failed to transfer power from operating engine to propeller resulting on forced landing off airport.

Owner provided jasc code: A1A72 for component failure, number of cycles on compressor 8000, power section 5000 iaw sb 3002R24. Gearbox pn 3017780 sn pce 85346 provided by owner.

Awaiting NTSB id# for block 5. This report will be amended when that number is received.
