From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 4, 2020, N5521L, a powered parachute aircraft took off at South Lewis County Airport, runway 24 at approximately midday. According to the PIC, light winds prevailed at 2-3 mph sw. During takeoff roll, pilot noticed that the chute inflated perfectly and in seconds aircraft was airborne. After climbing at 450 feet AGL, heading west, PIC decided to deploy the American flag. The folded flag was pushed in the hole between the aluminum angles of the airframe located a few inches in front of the pilot seat. A few moments later, soon after the flag was deployed, it disappeared from the pic's sight, then a loud and terrible noise ensued. The flag got caught in the propeller which caused the engine to stop abruptly resulting in an emergency landing 200 yards east of the airport. Aircraft rested on a barbed wire fence causing minor injury to the pilot and minor damage on the aircraft.

As the FAA filed it
