From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omitted (PIC) stated that on the final approach he was using full flaps, normal approach speed of 79 mph (miles per hour), and 75 mph at touchdown. The plane touched down on the first third of the runway and privacy data omitted was using the soft field landing technique. After touchdown he stated that the plane would not stop. The plane was hydroplaning on the wet grass runway. privacy data omitted Stated that when the plane looked like it would run off the end of the runway and hit trees, he applied right rudder to steer the plane away from the tree-line. privacy data omitted Stated that the plane was almost stopped when it slid into a retention pond. privacy data omitted Stated that he calculated his landing distance for a wet grass runway and by his calculations the airplane would need 1800 to 2000 feet to stop safely. The runway at Kenly is 3480 feet long by 100 feet wide.

As the FAA filed it

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (PIC) STATED THAT ON THE FINAL APPROACH HE WAS USING FULL FLAPS, NORMAL APPROACH SPEED OF 79 MPH (MILES PER HOUR), AND 75 MPH AT TOUCHDOWN. THE PLANE TOUCHED DOWN ON THE FIRST THIRD OF THE RUNWAY AND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS USING THE SOFT FIELD LANDING TECHNIQUE. AFTER TOUCHDOWN HE STATED THAT THE PLANE WOULD NOT STOP. THE PLANE WAS HYDROPLANING ON THE WET GRASS RUNWAY. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT WHEN THE PLANE LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD RUN OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND HIT TREES, HE APPLIED RIGHT RUDDER TO STEER THE PLANE AWAY FROM THE TREE-LINE. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT THE PLANE WAS ALMOST STOPPED WHEN IT SLID INTO A RETENTION POND. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE CALCULATED HIS LANDING DISTANCE FOR A WET GRASS RUNWAY AND BY HIS CALCULATIONS THE AIRPLANE WOULD NEED 1800 TO 2000 FEET TO STOP SAFELY. THE RUNWAY AT KENLY IS 3480 FEET LONG BY 100 FEET WIDE.
