From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 16 August 2020 at approximately 1005 EDT at middletown airport (kmdt), on a 135 passenger flight, N90BA encountered multiple birds during departure. At or about V1, a bird strike occurred on the side of the aircraft at the fuselage near the bottom of the windshield and traveled back past the windshield. The pilot took the throttles and ran them from full power to idle to feel for vibrations and monitored the engine instruments. The pilot stated no abnormal operation was noted. The pilot stated flight controls were normal with no flutter and the leading edges were intact. The pilot made a judgement that the aircraft was safe to continue. The flight was conducted at FL450 lasting 2:35 minutes. The pilot stated no signs of abnormalities were noted. The pilot stated during the pre flight inspection of the aircraft, he saw three spots that were hit by birds. Locations were left fuselage near the pilots windshield, left nacelle outboard of the alternator cooling inlet, and right winglet near the top edge. The pilot stated he believed a bird went through the left engine, he climbed on the left wing and thoroughly inspected the fan section. He stated no damage was visible. The pilot stated he walked to the right leading edge and looked in at the fan. The pilot stated he observed no damage to the right fan. The aircraft departed keyw at approximately 1300 EDT with a final destination of klns. Time in route was approximately 2:35. The pilot stated no abnormalities were noted. Upon arrival at home station (klns) the pilot completed a post flight inspection and informed the director of maintenance that the aircraft had encountered birds and possibly ingested one in the left engine. The maintenance department's detailed inspection revealed the right engine first stage compressor had sustained minor FOD damage. The aircraft was immediately grounded pending resolution to discovered discrepancies.
