From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot was landing a tailwheel aircraft near the threshold of runway 36 at klbo airport. A smooth touchdown was made on the main wheels at approximately 55 mph. Power was reduced to idle with slight forward pressure on the yoke. A small amount of right rudder was added to correct for a slight left turn, bringing aircraft straight. As speed was reduced, the tailwheel touched down and began to shimmy, resulting in a strong right turn. Full left rudder was applied with no effect and left brake was added resulting in a turn back to the left. The tailwheel continued to shimmy as right rudder and brake were applied with no effect to straighten the aircraft. Side loads increased on the right main tire assembly causing it to sheer from gear leg. The gear leg then dragged on the runway until tearing loose from the gear box. The right wing, fuselage and propeller then struck the runway. The aircraft came to rest on the runway turned 90 degrees from the approach heading.

As the FAA filed it
