From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 1353 local Alaska daylight time on 27 August 2020 two aircraft collided at Chena Marina Airport (AK28). N714KH, a Cessna 185 was on short final approach to the runway. N7498L, a PA-18-150 was advised of the aircraft on short final by the Fairbanks air traffic control tower. The PA-18-150 took off. JKIN714KH was also advised by the Fairbanks air traffic control tower of the departing aircraft. Each aircraft acknowledged the air traffic controller's advisory. The collision occurred at approximately 150 feet above ground level.

Neither aircraft was equipped with a transponder so altitude data is unavailable, however radar data retrieved from air traffic control indicates approximate 45 degree angle used when turning base for planned landing spot for N714KH. Interviews indicate 4KH normally landed long as his location was on the north end of the airfield. Landing aiming point further down the runway than the south end threshhold may have affected altitude and visual focus further down the runway.

As the FAA filed it
