From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 20, 2020 at 1240PM a Cessna 185 N850WB departed runway gravel runway 32 lake hood, anchorage Alaska for the purposes of providing currency flight instruction, verifying aircraft flight performance, and relocation to birchwood airport. The aircraft owner (ao), a private pilot with 575 total flight experience was in the left seat of the aircraft and the CFI with 2500 hours total flight experience was in the right seat. Neither the CFI nor the ao had any experience in the aircraft type, and the two pilots had not discussed who was the PIC. However, the CFI was aware that the aircraft owner had not flown in 10 years and did not have a current flight review, and therefore was not qualified to exercise the privileges of PIC. After the aircraft touched down on runway 2L at birchwood airport ( bcv), the aircraft veered to the right departed the runway and ground looped between runways 2L and 2R. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the left wing tip and the left horizontal stabilizer.
