From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 1417 z on 26 oct 2020, aircraft lined up for departure on runway 18 at khum. Winds were reported to be 110 at 10 immediately before aircraft took the runway.

As the aircraft rolled along the runway, the aircraft weathervaned and moved to the left side of the runway. As the pilot applied corrective control input, the airplane initially moved farther to the left side of the runway. Pilot then applied opposite control input which caused the aircraft to move toward the right side. This put the aircraft in an over-corrected state which led to pilot induced oscillations.

After a couple of oscillations in each direction, the aircraft exited the runway to the left side and crossed over the parallel taxiway toward the east ramp. It was at this point that the pilot induced oscillations were brought under control and the aircraft was stopped.

During investigation it was revealed the purpose of the flight was DC-3 flight instruction. PIC was providing instruction to SIC.

As the FAA filed it
