From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N18666 departed salem (ksle) airport with IFR flight plan to troutdale (kttd) airport at approximately 13:15Z. At approximately 13:23Z)the pilot cancels IFR and reported they will be bypassing troutdale and go to pendleton, Oregon (kpdt). At 13:35Z the cpc gives pilot a detailed weather picture along their route and offers an IFR clearance. The pilot asks for flight following to bke via PDT. The cpc issues a discreet beacon code and radar contact. Cpc asks for pilots requested altitude and pilot says 070. At 13:39Z the hood cpc verifies pilots route and advises of the weather near the gorge north of Mt. Hood and that it`s showing clear south of Mt. Hood. The pilot decides to go south of Mt. Hood. The cpc offers the pilot an IFR clearance if they would like it. The pilot says they will resume their own navigation. At 13:56Z N18666 begins some unusual maneuvers and eventfully loses altitude. At 14:02Z ZSE05 calls P80 hood with an emergency on N18666. The pilot had told ZSE05 that he thinks their pitot static system is iced up and zse asks for the vectoring altitude in that area and will put aircraft on a 270 heading. Mode c is lost at 14:03Z with last observed altitude of 059. Wreckage was later located near last observed position, the aircraft impacted the ground at a near vertical angle.
