From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

2020-12-09, N1956V, a Cessna 172 was located at the Glencoe, MN (kgyl) airport. The aircraft was parked on the ramp near the fuel pump. The PIC was on a long solo cross country building his experience, and had stopped into a town near the town where his family lived. His mother and little sister (11 yrs old) had drove over to meet with him in the FBO. They said their fairwells, mom and sister headed to the car and the PIC headed to the plane.

It was dark outside and the engine had just been started. The PIC had his head down looking at his checklist when the aircraft suddenly shook. He looked up and saw his mother running away from the airplane. The PIC immediately shutdown, chocked the airplane, and ran for the family car.

Mom was bleeding out from her left arm, he quickly got her in the back seat, and had his little sister jump up front to be the navigator as they were unfamiliar with this town and had no idea where the nearest hospital would be.

After er arrival, blood was given and mom was helo transported to minneapolis for multiple surgeries.

The prop was approached from the 11 o'clock position striking on the upswing. Two hits to the left arm were taken. Seventy-five percent useful productivity of the limb is expected in recovery. The engine was at idle power.

Note: FAA post accident PIC interview revealed that there might have been some non-physical trauma experienced by the youngest witness. NTSB was notified of this and contact with the appropriate transportation disaster assistance folks was made available.
