From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot and the passenger were returning from a 45-minute leisure/local flight and were instructed by ATC at San Marcos regional airport (hyi) to report a 2-mile right base for runway 17. During the descent, the pilot realized he had dipped below the instructed altitude, so as the pilot began to correct and climb, the engine stopped as did the propeller. The pilot began emergency procedures and checklists but the engine wouldn't start. The pilot picked a suitable field to land and successfully landed, but as he was slowing down, the aircraft ground-looped, causing the left main to collapse. No additional damage or passenger injury were noted. Upon preliminary investigation, the left tank was at the same amount as takeoff and the right tank was empty. However, both tanks and header tank were set to on.

As the FAA filed it
