From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N16JB departed koxr for a 19 hour flight to hilo Hawaii. When the a/c was approximately 11 NM west off shore from Oxnard the PIC noticed his engine running rough, and could not maintain altitude. The PIC executed a 180 degree turn and headed back to Oxnard Airport. The PIC contacted oxr tower and requested a landing on runway 7.

Not able to maintain altitude, and losing power the PIC declared an emergency with oxr tower. At this point the PIC knew he could not make runway 7, so he found privacy data omitted that runs parallel to runway 7, and made his approach to it. The PIC landed without injuries to any persons or property.

#4 Cyl. Was defective. After a visual boroscope inspection it was evident the exhaust valve is stuck open.
