From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On March 29, 2021, PIC privacy data omitted was concluding a flight from princeton airport (39N), NJ, to Hazleton Regional Airport (hzl), PA, in N2458X, a CE-182H. The flight was conducted on an IFR flight plan. The aircraft was handed off from abe to avp approach. The aircraft was cleared into hzl via the RNAV rwy 28 approach and given IFR cancellation procedures prior to frequency change to hzl CTAF. The avp radar position controller observed the N2458X radar target drop off his scope east of hzl. This is consistent with landing at the airport at 2008L. Nothing abnormal was observed while the aircraft was on approach to hzl; however, IFR cancellation had not been received as prescribed by 14 CFR 91. 169(d) 15 minutes after expected landing. After 28 minutes, attempts began to contact the pilot, airport management, and the Pennsylvania state police. The zny watch desk was contacted to issue an alnot for an overdue aircraft. The airport manager eventually discovered the aircraft inside an airport hangar. Pilot privacy data omitted finally contacted avp TRACON by telephone at 2146L to adivse he landed safely and to cancel his IFR flight plan.
