From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot stated the observed winds were 18 to 24 knots at the time of takeoff as reported from the flight service station. Pilot further stated the crosswind was manageable on takeoff roll, but during takeoff rotation, at approximately 5 feet off the ground, the aircraft was hit with a rogue gust of wind that caused the aircraft to side slip and lose lift. Aircraft touched back down on the runway and suffered substantial damage to the landing gear, wings, and propeller. Flight service station observed the accident and stated that the approximate wind speed of the gust was 41 knots.

As the FAA filed it
