From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On may 15, 2021 approximately 2154 zulu time a pilot reported engine trouble over the mountains near Lake Arrowhead California while following a foreflight route to big bear airport flying a Cessna 210, n number 7350E. The controller immediately offered assistance to the location of alternate airports, current weather and coordinated with san bernardino airport when the pilot requsted to land there. However, the pilot was unable to make it to any airport and landed in the mountains. The local chp located the aircraft on the ground within minutes and reported no fatalities involved, but major damage to the aircraft. The aircraft landed on a steep slope off of torey road just east of Lake Arrowhead lake facing east at 45 degrees. There was substantial damage to the aircraft and the pilots had to be extracated by the fire department then moved to the local hospital for helicopter transport to a trauma center. There was an apparent landing path about 60 feet long heading west, where it appears the right wing hit heavy brush spinning the aircraft left 180 degrees. The tail cone was found 50 feet west of the final resting spot and the wing leading edge and wing tip 60 feet to the east. After speaking to pilot privacy data omitted on may 18, 2021, who stated that he was following the foreflight procedure to big bear when the engine lost power. He notified ATC right away and tried to follow their vector to san bernardino, however a ridge was too high in front of them. Same for the small dirt strip in Lake Arrowhead. It was in sight for a brief time, but another hill procluded a glide path to the runway. The pilot stated they found the best spot possible without hitting the tall trees in the area and tried to stall the aircraft before landing. The aircraft was removed from the area on may 18, 2021 at approximately 1130 pacific time and taken to a storage facility where the NTSB will perform a teardown inspection to determine the possible cause of the power loss. On 06/09/2021 the NTSB completed the examination of the aircraft engine and airframe and did not positively determine the cause of the power loss or other mechanical issues with this aircraft. The investigation is considered closed at this time and will be updated if more information becomes available.
