From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Prior to takeoff pilot ran engine on aircraft for approximately 20 minutes. Aircraft was shut down. Pilot started aircraft and performed full run-up procedure.

During takeoff climb aircraft lost power resulting in an emergency landing. An initial bang was heard followed by subsequent power loss. Debris was observed exiting the aircrafts muffler system.

Pilot attempted to return to runway but had insufficient altitude. Pilot landed aircraft in small clearing just north of the runway resulting in substantial damage.

Inspection of the runway resulted in recovery of the internal baffling for the muffler system. Inspection of the muffler system revealed internal baffling was clogging the exhaust pipe.
