From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 23 July 2021 N8884 lost power 7 miles south of 0OR9 at an altitude of approximately 7500 MSL. The pilot searched his wingx app for the nearest airport (0OR9) and estimated that he had enough altitude to get to the runway. About a mile south of the runway he realized there was a barn on the approach end of 34 that would make the approach more difficult. He decided he had enough altitude to enter downwind for 16. Upon turning base he felt a strong tailwind, the airspeed dropped, stall warning horn sounded and the vertical speed increased. He then continued the turn to set down in a clearing just east of the runway. The aircraft was substantially damaged upon impact and the ground roll. The pax suffered a minor injury.
