From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 23, 2021 N274SR privacy data omittedwas landing on runway 05R in Knoxville, TN. (Tys). Upon landing, hit hard on nose and bounced 2-3 times. ATIS winds reported variable @ 4-5 knots at the time. After taxi to FBO, lineman pointed out nose wheel cowling damage. N274SR was inspected by privacy data omitted at tys to find no other damage other than the nose wheel, nose wheel cowling and nose gear tube/strut. No structural damage, no prop strike reported. Pilot states that he believes he caught a quartering tailwind causing the porpoising which caused the damage. The 12 months leading up to the incident flight the pilot logged only 16 hours. The 6 months leading up to the incident flight the pilot had logged .9 flight hours. This leads this inspector to recommend additional training for robert frank white, pilot of N274SR, with emphasis on landings, crosswind landings and instrument work as the pilot has no logged actual instrument time and very little simulated instrument time in the provided logbook. Counsel representing privacy data omitted agrees with the recommendation. N274SR is down for repairs for several months as parts are backordered. However, this training will be conducted in N274SR when back up and flying. This is considered an incident.

Additional training was conducted with privacy data omitted, a Cirrus instructor and DPE in Knoxville, TN. The training began in August 24, 2021 and concluded on October 26, 2021 due to weather delays and the delay in parts to repair the aircraft. privacy data omitted Satisfactory completed the additional training provided by privacy data omitted and a letter is attached to the sas activity 1749. ATIS WINDS REPORTED VARIABLE @ 4-5 KNOTS AT THE TIME. AFTER TAXI TO FBO, LINEMAN POINTED OUT NOSE WHEEL COWLING DAMAGE.
