From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 24, 2021 at approximately 1817 mountain standard time, a Cosman Lsa, N823B departed a private airstrip near Buckeye Arizona. During climb out, the pilot reported an engine failure and landed in a farmers field approximately 1.5 miles southeast of the intersection of southern avenue and south bruner road.

The pilot stated that while turning crosswind after departing runway 17, at between 600- 700' above the ground, and 80-85 mph indicated airspeed, the engine made a breaking then grinding sound accompanied by high vibration and the sound of what seemed to be running on two cylinders. Within an approximately 5 seconds the engine seized hard with a squealing sound, then silence, a single prop blade visible in the left windscreen.

The aircraft landed perpendicular to field berms, the nose and main gear assemblies collapsed following contact with a berm. The aircraft continued to slide along on the fuselage for approximately 250 feet.
