From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During interview, with the pilotprivacy data omitted, he stated that he had been practicing glassy water landings. While trying to land, he was running out of lake to perform the landing. In order to get down quicker he increased his descent rate. The plane hit the water hard and started to porpoise. On the third bounce the left float nosed into water. The approach and landing maneuver caused the plane to flip over and settled in the lake upside down. The pilotprivacy data omitted crawled out of cabin and climbed on top of the belly of the plane and waited about 5 hrs. Until island air taxi service spotted the aircraft with him and reported the incident for rescue.
