From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 08/26/2021, at 18:22Z, 11:22 am local, privacy data omittedwas landing an Aero Commander 100-180 (N4030X) borrowed from a cousin at Colorado City, AZ, airport (kazc). He lost control of the airplane upon touchdown due to gusty crosswind conditions. The plane veered off the runway and hit the concrete barriers around the windsock coming to a stop and sustaining minor damage (landing gear collapse and propeller strike). There was no injury. There was no report of airplane malfunction.

privacy data omitted Is a new private pilot (check ride date privacy data omitted, total hours 86) and had no prior experience flying that specific make and model of airplane. Additionally, privacy data omitted was flying in the right seat, which he also had never done before.

The reason for privacy data omitted being in the left seat was that his brother, privacy data omitted, was occupying the left seat. privacy data omitted Is even a newer private pilot privacy data omitted, total hours 79) but had more recent experience and was given a familiarization flight in that make and model (as proven by his ability to land and take off the airplane safely prior to leland) and was the agreed PIC.

privacy data omitted Tried to save the airplane but did not have the ability nor the training to do so. The high density altitude (estimated around 8,000?) Degraded the performance of the aircraft and contributed in making the recovery difficult.

Contributing factors were the crosswind gusting condition, the flying pilot?s overall inexperience, his lack of recent experience, his lack of experience in flying that make and model and his lack of experience in flying from the right seat. Additional contributing factors were the non-flying pilot inability of recover the airplane and the high density altitude.

As the FAA filed it

ON 08/26/2021, AT 18:22Z, 11:22 AM LOCAL, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^WAS LANDING AN AERO COMMANDER 100-180 (N4030X) BORROWED FROM A COUSIN AT COLORADO CITY, AZ, AIRPORT (KAZC).

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IS A NEW PRIVATE PILOT (CHECK RIDE DATE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, TOTAL HOURS 86) AND HAD NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE FLYING THAT SPECIFIC MAKE AND MODEL OF AIRPLANE. ADDITIONALLY, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS FLYING IN THE RIGHT SEAT, WHICH HE ALSO HAD NEVER DONE BEFORE.

THE REASON FOR ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ BEING IN THE LEFT SEAT WAS THAT HIS BROTHER, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, WAS OCCUPYING THE LEFT SEAT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IS EVEN A NEWER PRIVATE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, TOTAL HOURS 79) BUT HAD MORE RECENT EXPERIENCE AND WAS GIVEN A FAMILIARIZATION FLIGHT IN THAT MAKE AND MODEL (AS PROVEN BY HIS ABILITY TO LAND AND TAKE OFF THE AIRPLANE SAFELY PRIOR TO LELAND) AND WAS THE AGREED PIC.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TRIED TO SAVE THE AIRPLANE BUT DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY NOR THE TRAINING TO DO SO.
