From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 9/7/21 at 2142Z N142JD attempted a water landing in pocomoonshine lake with amphibious floats with the wheels extended. The aircraft flipped over after contacting the water. The pilot and sole occupant suffered minor injury. The pilot reported that he was practicing water landings and forgot to put the wheels up. The pilot did not hold any airman certification, had never received any training on airplane sea operations, and had only received about 20 hours of dual instruction in a C172 airplane. I recommend an enforcement investigation due to operation of an aircraft without a pilot certificate.

On 1/7/22 downgraded to incident by NTSB.
