What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On the afternoon of November 4, 2021 the pilot of a Cubcrafters CC11-160, N727SS, departed Challis, ID airport (kllj) for a 19-mile flight northwest to his private airstrip ("castle creek ranch"). Before takeoff he observed the weather and windsock at his destination via a private webcam. Upon arriving at destination the pilot overflew the airstrip and noted he would have a slight quartering tailwind while landing uphill to the ene. He also visually observed convective activity in the vicinity. After a normal touchdown he encountered a gust of wind that caused him to lose directional control, and the aircraft veered towards the side of the runway, struck a wooden "jackfence" and ended up inverted sustaining substantial damage to the wings and tail. Pilot was not injured but considers the aircraft a total loss.
