From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Sunday, November 7, 2021, a Piper PA-30, registered as N8822Y, serial number 30-1980, was involved in an accident at Hidden Lake Airport (FA40) in New Port Richey, FL. The accident resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft.

The pilot explained that he entered the traffic pattern for runway 23 and conducted a normal landing. He stated that after touchdown he let the aircraft roll and began applying brake pressure approx. two thirds down the runway. As he applied brake pressure, the aircraft immediately veered sharply to the right. He explained that his attempts to steer and apply differenctial braking to maintain directional control were unsuccessful.

The aircraft exited off the side of runway 23 striking one of the runway PAPI?s and eventually impacting trees before coming to rest.

The aircraft fuselage was lodged between two tree trunks. Both engine?s propellers appear to have made contact with the tree trunks. The left main landing collapsed under the aircaft and the right main landing sheared off at the strut.
