What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On November 09, 2021 at approximately 1136 central standard time, while landing at North Texas Regional Airport (gyi) on runway 17L Mooney M20J s/n 24-0888 N4815H gear collapsed. The instructor pilot and his student were the only souls on board, neither sustained injuries. The airplane was operated under part 91. The pilot/cfi departed sherman municipal airport (kswi) conducting a training flight under part 61, visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the incident.
The instructor (pilot) and student were practicing maneuvers in the traffic pattern of kswi. During the third touch and go approach, the pilot and student heard the gear warning horn sounding off. The gear indicator light was green, showing the gear was fully extended.
The pilot flew the airplane to gyi and conducted a fly by ATC to have the tower confirm if the landing gear was fully extended. The tower confirmed the gear appeared to be extended.
The pilot flew back to kswi and attempted to land the airplane. The right main gear touched the runway first, but when the left gear made contact, the left wing appeared to be lower than the right. The pilot aborted the landing, flew back to gyi, and declared an emergency.
The pilot conducted another fly by ATC and the tower confirmed the landing gear was extended, but possibly not locked. The pilot then attempted to perform a manual gear extension but the gear would not fully extend, and lock. While following the emergency procedures checklist, the pilot observed the landing gear circuit breaker was in the open position. He attempted to close the breaker, but it would not reset.
The pilot then landed the airplane at gyi. The landing gear collapsed on touchdown, damaging the propeller, multiple landing gear linkages, wheel fairings, and belly of the aircraft.
As the FAA filed it
ON NOVEMBER 09, 2021 AT APPROXIMATELY 1136 CENTRAL STANDARD TIME, WHILE LANDING AT NORTH TEXAS REGIONAL AIRPORT (GYI) ON RUNWAY 17L MOONEY M20J S/N 24-0888 N4815H GEAR COLLAPSED.
