From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On December 5, 2021, at 1405 MDT, an Aerokit SA-32T turbo trainer, N6Y, privacy data omitted made a hard landing while on a personal flight at Sandia Airpark Estates (1N1), NM.(35° 5? 40?n 106° 9? 30?w). The private pilot was uninjured. The aircraft sustained a collapsed nose gear and suffered damage to the propeller. The flight originated in VFR conditions from taos municipal airport on December 5, 2021, at approximately 1300 MST. No flight plan was filed.

This is the pilot?s fourth visit to 1N1. He explained that 1N1 is an airport ?he doesn?t like going to?? He described his approach as long and flat. He stated that he lost sight of the runway in the flare and then nosed over to see if he was on the runway. This action caused N6Y to contact the ground.

Investigation of the sight showed that initial touchdown was approximately 130 feet short of the runway on the displaced threshold. N6Y bounced twice before the nose gear collapsed at the runway threshold and then sliding about 0.1 mile before coming to a stop in the dirt on the south side of runway 27.

Based on the description from the pilot, the iic determined that this incident was attributable to the pilot?s lack of proficiency, landing procedures and aeronautical decision making..
