From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On December 11, 2021, an experimental amateur-built RV-3 airplane, N9YY, was substantially damaged and the pilot was fatally injured. According to the pilot's friend, the pilot planned a local flight with the intention of overflying the pilot?s home. A witness located about a mile west of the accident site observed the airplane in a descending right turn, about a few hundred feet from her location. She recalled seeing the propeller wind milling. A second witness stated at a very low altitude. He observed the airplane roll until one wing pointed straight up and the other point straight down. The airplane then descended in a steep nose down angle. The airplane came to rest upright in a residential driveway. The first point of impact was a palm tree located adjacent to a private home. All major components of the airplane were in the debris area of about 30 feet by 30 feet.
