From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

12/24/2021. Pilot performed preflight of commander 114; fuel gauges read just above ½ tanks, approx. 18 gallons per side. Visual check of tanks showed fuel below the tabs (fuel at tabs equals 24 gallons per side); sumped tanks, no contaminants. Completed preflight, plane airworthy for flight.

Flight- round-trip flight from kism-korl-kpbi-kism, 281NM, 2:02 ete, estimated fuel burn of 28 gallons which would leave approx. 40 minute reserve.

On return from kpbi, approx. 15 NM south east of kism, engine sputtered, pilot switched the fuel selector from both to left tank, turned electric boost pump on, engine ran normally for approx.. 2 minutes, sputtered again and stopped. Pilot declared an emergency with kism tower, advised of an engine failure. Performed a soft/short field landing, shut down plane and exited. Plane was undamaged, pilot and pax uninjured. Authorities notified.
