What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On or about January 3, 2022, at approximately 0930 EST, a Mooney M201, a fixed-wing single-engine airplane bearing the registration of N201LR (sn: 24-0442), sustained minor damage after sliding off of the left side of runway 27 following an attempted takeoff at Elkhart municipal airport (ekm) in Elkhart, IN. privacy data omitted N201LR and was the pilot-in-command (PIC) at the time of the incident. According to the PIC, he was conducting this flight under the provisions of title 14 of the code of federal regulations (14 CFR) part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and the following is the weather observation from ekm near the time of the incident:

The PIC, a private pilot, was N201LR'S sole occupant when the incident occurred. The PIC stated the runway surface was covered by snow and ice but said he had taken off in similar conditions without incident. The PIC stated that he lined up on runway 27, and added just enough power to get N201LR to move slowly. The PIC said he felt he had enough traction with the runway surface to continue the takeoff. The PIC then slowly added takeoff power. Shortly after adding the takeoff power, the PIC stated he felt the plane start to slide to the left. The PIC said he applied additional right rudder to regain control of N201LR but was unsuccessful. N201LR slid off the left side of runway 27, approximately 500 feet from the approach end of the runway, and struck a runway edge light with its propeller. Pieces of the runway edge light impacted the left wing's leading edge, resulting in a small dent in the skin. Shortly after the impact, the aircraft came to a stop, and the PIC did exit N201LR without further incident.
