From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. CST on Monday, February 14, 2022, N7337D departed runway 18 at Country Air Estates (1A9R) for what was intended to be a single trip around the pattern. Takeoff, crosswind turnout, and downwind leg during the flight were uneventful until the pilot began the decent and power reduction as the aircraft reached the abeam to the north end of runway 18/36, when the engine began sputtering and running rough. Pilot switched from right tank to left tank, verified carb heat ?on? And began making a base turn. At that point in the pattern, the engine was barely running and sputtering severely, and eventually stopped. The pilot focused on maintaining a flight attitude that would prevent a stall and prepared for impact as the plane entered the treetops. The pilot sustained major injuries. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

As the FAA filed it
