What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On descent, while lining up for approach, the aircraft lost engine power. Engine controls were manipulated to regain power, engine power remained lost. Pilot located field to perform landing. Aircraft touched down in field and came to a stop when it hit wooded debris in a gully approximately 560 ft from touchdown in the field. The propeller struck the wooded debris, causing the bolts to shear and become separated from the aircraft. The nose gear collapsed on itself crashing into the same debris. The left wing sustained substantial damage on the leading edge, wing strut and became slightly separated from the fuselage. Aircraft was leaking fuel from the left wing. The right wing sustained substantial damage on the leading edge. The underside of the engine sustained substantial damage when the lower cowling impacted the debris area.
As the FAA filed it
ON DESCENT, WHILE LINING UP FOR APPROACH, THE AIRCRAFT LOST ENGINE POWER.
