What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Aircraft being operated by CFI and student pilot on part 61 training flight. Departed ftw approx 1540 and flew differenty manuevers in route to bridgeport xbp. Topped off with fuel at xbp and departed back to ftw. Approx 7 mins after departure engine began losing power and "sputtering". Pulling to idle seemed to help stabilize but would not maintain power when throttle pushed up. CFI made decision for forced landing and declared mayday. Lightly clipped top of tree on final. Evidence aircraft hit nose first then "pogo sticked" inverted approx 50 feet from initial impact point. Fuselage broken in half just aft of doors. Tail surfaces destroyed. Both wings substantial damage.
