From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On or about may 16, 2022, at approximately 1737 EDT, a 1946 Ercoupe 415-C, a fixed-wing single-engine airplane bearing registration N3530H (sn: 4155), sustained substantial damage after a hard landing at the tri-state steuben county airport (kanq) in Angola, IN. privacy data omitted (Registration pending) of N672SV and was also the pilot-in-command (PIC) at the time of the accident. The PIC stated that the flight was to be conducted under the provisions of title 14 code of federal regulations (14 CFR) part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and the following is the weather observation from kanq at the approximate time of the accident:

Kanq 162115Z auto 30014G24KT 10SM FEW080 22/03 A2982 rmk AO2

The PIC stated they were inbound for landing on runway 23 at kanq at the above date and time. The PIC said that it felt like the aircraft lost all its lift at approximately ten to twenty feet over the runway. The nose of the airplane then dropped down, and the nose gear struck the runway hard. The hard impact resulted in the nose gear strut pushing through the nose gear fork and puncturing the tire, the propeller striking the runway surface, and extensive wrinkling of the aircraft's skin behind the firewall and into the leading edge of the right-wing.

As the FAA filed it

ON OR ABOUT MAY 16, 2022, AT APPROXIMATELY 1737 EDT, A 1946 ERCOUPE 415-C, A FIXED-WING SINGLE-ENGINE AIRPLANE BEARING REGISTRATION N3530H (SN: 4155), SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AFTER A HARD LANDING AT THE TRI-STATE STEUBEN COUNTY AIRPORT (KANQ) IN ANGOLA, IN. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (REGISTRATION PENDING) OF N672SV AND WAS ALSO THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND (PIC) AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.
