From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On may 21, 2022 at approximately 16:30 local time, privacy data omitted, an Aviat A-1B husky, received minor damage when the pilot failed to maintain directional control during a crosswind landing. The aircraft departed the runway surface and came to rest inverted in approximately 1.5 feet of water. There was one person on board the aircraft at the time of the incident with no injuries reported.

Pilot stated: listened to ASOS on arrival to paso (Seldovia, AK) and wind conditions were within stated pilot and aircraft limitations, but later reported as: 03008G20 350V110 . Pilot entered the pattern for rwy 34 upon landing flare and subsequent touchdown encountered a sudden change of wind direction as well as a gust from the right. Pilot was unable to counteract the drift. Pilot started a go around and realized that the drift to the left increased danger of impacting trees. Aborted the go around, slid over the embankment and into about 1.5 feet of water and ended up inverted. No passengers were on board and no injuries were sustained to the pilot.
