From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omitted, A Meyers M200, took off from (ktxw) with approximately 65 gallons on board. Pilot reports that he was running off the right full aft tank and departed from runway 14. At 200FT. Retracted landing gear, 400FT. Cleared flaps, then left turn. Flew the left down wind leg runway 14. Adjusted prop and RPM. Climbed to aprox 700-800 ft. and turned base to final, maintained altitude and overflew runway 14. Turned back to NE heading and climbed to 7500. About two thirds of the way down the left downwind 14 the engine started loosing power and stopped, propeller kept turning. Turned a base to final trying to maintain airspeed. Dropped the landing gear, the drag was too much and lost altitude rapidly. Turned right and clipped the top of the trees and landed nose down resting against a hackberry tree. Nose wheel, prop and engine broke off. The pilot was assisted by people on the ground to egress the aircraft.
