The pilot did not file a flight plan. The aircraft suffered minor damage. Neither the instructor nor the student were injured. Investigation revealed that there were no mechanical defects with the aircraft. Also, the student/second pilot is in spas for medical certificate only.
During the brief time in the airport traffic pattern, the instructor reported that he had become task saturated with correcting the student who was have a difficult time maintaining the proper aircraft attitude and speed. The instructor also reported that he did not verify the before landing checklist, which includes lowering the landing gear, was accomplished. Upon hearing initial propeller contact with the ground, the instructor took the controls and completed the gear-up landing. The propeller and lower fuselage suffered minor damage. It is the iic's opinion that the root cause for this incident was task saturation by the CFI, causing loss of situational awareness
