From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 25, 2022, the pilot/builder was operating his experimental aircraft on its first flight.

The pilot/builder indicated that the wind was calm and the sky was clear.

Pilot/builder stated that he took off on runway 15L at Harvey Field (S43), and performed a normal takeoff. During climb-out at approximately 800 feet heading south, the pilot observed an excessive cylinder head temperature reading. At approximately 1000 feet, pilot stated that he declared an emergency and announced that he is entering the traffic pattern. The pilot indicated that he lined up the aircraft for the final approach and decided to land on the grass runway (15R) with the intent to slow down the aircraft during landing rollout.

During the final phase of the landing roll at approximately 20 mph, the pilot stated that he did not notice that the turf was wet and muddy causing the main wheels to sink into the soft grass surface subsequently damaging the propeller when the aircraft rested on its nose.

No injuries was reported from this incident.

As the FAA filed it
