From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. June 17, 2022

Helicopter N224MG experienced a dynamic rollover at kism.

Occupants were (CFI) and private pilot student who was operating the flight controls from the right seat at the time of accident.

As stated by the instructor, todays lesson was to practice hover work on Kissimmee Airport (kism) runway 6. Student with (13.6 hrs flying time) was still working on controlling the helicopter better in the pickups and set downs. She would let the helicopter drift to the left after liftoff followed by a yaw to the right. This was preceded by a quick pull up on the collective after liftoff to get away from the ground. We were working on stopping that from happening and the instructor mentioned the problem with dynamic rollover being a possibility. After a few pickups student was able to lift the helicopter up without abnormal movements. They were nearing the end of the lesson when student mentioned she wanted to try one more pickup. During that pickup attempt the helicopter had a dynamic roll over to the left and ended up on its side on the runway. The instructor believes student must have pulled up on the collective again but he said the left skid was still contacting the ground and the helicopter very quickly pivoted around and came to rest on its left side. No injuries to either student or instructor. Instructor then pulled the mixture control to shut down the engine along with switching the magnetos & battery to the off position. Student was hanging in her seatbelt above instructor and they established that neither of them were injured. They removed their seatbelts and exited the helicopter through the left front windscreen that no longer had the plexiglass attached to it. The instructor contacted the kism tower controller via phone to let them know they were ok and the helicopter was secured.
