What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On July 20, 2022 at approximately 1310 MDT,privacy data omitted, a Champion 7KCAB sustained substantial damage after the pilot lost control of the aircraft during landing-rollout at the Gordon Municipal Airport (kgrn) in Gordon, Nebraska.
Wind reports gathered from AWOS data indicate that for 30 minutes before and after the time of the accident, wind direction was variable from 220 degrees to 310 degrees, with wind gusts as high as 15 knots. The reports were gathered at 5-minute intervals.
Skid marks on the surface of runway 29 are present for approximately 50 feet and the marks terminate at the left edge of the runway where grass/turf begins. The skid marks indicate the aircraft departed the left side of the runway about 45 degrees left of runway direction. Ground signatures indicate that upon entering, or shortly after entering, the grass/turf along the runway, the aircraft rotated about it's lateral axis, striking the propeller in the turf. The aircraft continued to rotate in this same direction and ended the rotation upside down, approximately 180 degrees from the direction rotation began. Each propeller blade tip was bent in a backwards (aft) direction. Portions of the lower nose cowling, wing structure, vertical stabilizer, and rudder also sustained damage. The main wing spar also appeared deformed. Damage to the aircraft was determined to be substantial according to NTSB guidelines.
As the FAA filed it
ON JULY 20, 2022 AT APPROXIMATELY 1310 MDT,^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, A CHAMPION 7KCAB SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AFTER THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING LANDING-ROLLOUT AT THE GORDON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (KGRN) IN GORDON, NEBRASKA.
