From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During the takeoff roll, the pilot of the aircraft stated that the aircraft would only achieve about a 35 knot airspeed. The pilot stated that the engine sounded fine. After the aircraft was approximately one-half the way down the runway, the pilot decided to abort the takeoff and retarded the throttle to idle. The pilot states that after he turned off onto the taxiway the aircraft engine quit. The pilot stated that while on the taxiway he attempted an engine start and at that time, a flash of flame and white smoke came out of the left side front engine cowling. The pilot states that he shut the fuel off and all electronics and he and his passenger exited the aircraft.
