From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During a dual instructional flight, the PIC (instructor) of the single-engine aircraft, expirenced loss of control of the aircraft while the student performed a short field takeoff from runway 7 at the Merrill Municiple Airport in Merrill, WI (krrl).

The PIC reported that the student was practicing local airwork and returned to the Merrill airport for take-off and landing practice. The PIC repored that the first landing was normal with a taxiback to runway 7. After first landing the student lined up for runway 7 for a short field takeoff, rotated the aircraft at 65 knots, and lifted off. During the transition to climb performing the short field takeoff, the PIC reported that the aircraft rolled to the right and proceeded down from approximetly 50 feet with the student counteracting the roll using opposite aileron. The aircraft then struck the ground on the right side of the runway in a grassy area. The aircraft came to final rest to the left of and parallel to the corresponding taxiway. Both the main landing gear and nose wheel assembly had been sheared off during the impact with the ground. Additionally, there was also evidence of structual damage to the wing and empennage aircraft sections.
